DAY 2
PROJECT/UNIT DESCRIPTION/EXPEDITION:
Students will continue working on building a 3-D model of the space that their character with inhibit. They will spend the day working on building things such as furniture and other objects that represent their character.

ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING:
Decisions about art - making can be developed through engagement with art can lead to understanding and appreciation of self, others, the natural world, and constructed environments. |
INQUIRY/LEARNING TARGET:
Students will build objects for their character's environment using found objects. |
KEY CONCEPTS:
Model Space Scale Connection |
SKILLS:
Making relationships between 2 things Listening critically Thinking independently |
ART FOCUS:
Create a 3-D model of an environment that your character would live in using found objects and the given space. |
LITERACY FOCUS:
Students will be participating in in-process critiques as well as a group discussion during the cardboard demonstration. |
DOCUMENTATION:
|
|
This video is showing the student trying to build things without any kind of adhesive device or glue. He was working off of prior knowledge and taking into account his materials.
|
This student was creating pollen for her flower creature. She was making connections about her creatures characteristics and what type of things would be in its home. She thought that it would want food in it's home so she made it some pollen.
|
This student began branching out a lot and created a whole rooftop setup. He was making important material choices and had a design layout in his head that he was transferring into his 3D model. This students creature is a big round thing with really long and strong arms and he made him a tight rope so that he could swing across it and then swing into the pool on the ground. This was a great connection between his character and living environment.
The above images are of the class creating their 3D spaces
The lesson went very well today. The student created furniture and other objects using mainly cardboard to place in their 3D modeled homes. They started with basic things like TV's and chairs and beds, but once their imagination started to take off and they realized all their possibilities they were onto things like shower curtains, and hover pads, and rooftop gymnasiums. One student had a great discovery where she realized that you can take a material that is 2D like cardboard and with a little manipulation, you can turn it into awesome 3D objects! The students also carried over the great learning they have been doing with making connections between the characteristics they have created for their character and how that character might live.
