DAY 3
PROJECT/UNIT DESCRIPTION/EXPEDITION:
Students will continue building their 3-D model of the environment that their character will live in.
Students will continue building their 3-D model of the environment that their character will live in.
ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING:
Decisions about art - making can be developed through engagement with art can lead to understanding and appreciation of self, others, the natural world, and constructed environments. |
INQUIRY/LEARNING TARGET:
Students will complete thier 3-D models by build objects for their character's environment using found objects. |
KEY CONCEPTS:
Model Space Scale Connection |
SKILLS:
Making relationships between 2 things Listening critically Thinking independently |
ART FOCUS:
Create a 3-D model of an environment that your character would live in using found objects and the given space. |
LITERACY FOCUS:
Students will be participating in in-process critiques as well as a group discussion during the cardboard demonstration. |
DOCUMENTATION:
In this video the student is talking about how her creature exploded in the kiln so she decided to adopt another students creature who is no longer in the class. She found a way to make connections between this new character and her old one so that it would still fit into the environment she created. She says that the lion really likes honey so that is definitely something that she was able to bring to her environment so she is demonstrating a very good knowledge of the connections between a creature and their environment.
|
This is one of our youngest students and he did an excellent job of building all of the items in his creatures house. Her he is explaining each of the things he built and why they are important to his dog, and why the dog would want them in his house. This student had a discovery that stated how cool it was that you could turn something flat like cardboard into 3D objects.
|
This student is talking about his creature Professor Flame and his environment. He utilized his paint mixing skills to create the inside of the volcano where Professor Flame lives and he made great connections showing why the items in his home were important such as its really hot so sometimes he just likes to sit down and watch TV and that he needs a fridge because it's way too hot for his food in the volcano.

In this lesson the students continued to work on the environments they created for their creatures and built on the amazing connections they have been making throughout the semester between the characteristics of their creature and when that creature would live. This project was a good final compilation of all of their work throughout the summer with painting and paint mixing skills and building skills and planning out thier work and the overall theme of making connections.
